Attack of the Killer Donuts

Have you ever wondered what would happen if Herbert West from the Re-Animator series were to get a job at a Dunkin' Donuts? Well look no further than this low budget hidden gem from 2016 that won't leave you feeling glazed over.

The plot is a simple one: a chemical accident turns ordinary donuts into bloodthirsty killers. Now it's up to Johnny, Michelle, and Howard to save their sleepy town from...Killer Donuts!

Attack of the Killer Donuts is a much-needed love letter to the B-movies of the 80's that takes an obscure premise (such as Attack of the Killer Tomatoes) and gives us a jelly-filled romp into hilarity, sprinkled with a little bit of gore. I was quite suprised with the production value of the film; they blended low-budget CGI with practical effects to create a quite enjoyable 85 minutes. Granted, I did not expect much from a movie with the title Attack of the Killer Donuts, but I'm left with a very good taste in my mouth recommending this movie to you if you just want some mindless fun and entertainment.

The cast is a mix of first-time actors who do a great job of keeping the comedic timing and flow running smoothly. Things never gets stale at any point in the movie. You may recognize C. Thomas Howell (The Outsiders, The Hitcher, E.T.) playing the part of Officer Rogers, alongside his partner, Officer Hammerstein played by Fredrick Burns -- because what is a Killer Donut movie with out a couple of bungling cops?

I highly reccomend this movie if you just want a laugh out loud, (bear) claws out, fright filled fritter of a film. So grab yourself a cup of coffee and your favorite pastry and enjoy -- because  we've eaten them for years, and now it's their turn!
