Most Popular Games of 2021

2021 has been another big year for gaming, with almost half of the world’s population getting in on the action. Over the last 12 months, we’ve seen many great titles get released, existing ones get a facelift, and big improvements to the hardware we play them on. Of all the different games we’ve collectively played in 2021, here are the most popular titles.

Grand Theft Auto V

Grand Theft Auto V is nearing its 10th birthday and it's entirely possible that Rockstar Games won’t release a new title until after that milestone. In early 2022, an “enhanced and extended” version of GTA V will be made available for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, making it the third generation the game has been released on. Even without this upgraded edition, GTA V has remained popular through 2021, thanks to the continual updates released by Rockstar for the multiplayer mode GTA Online.

Roulette

Roulette is one of the oldest games that are played today. It was invented during the 18th century and has been a firm favorite ever since. Today, online casinos help to maintain roulette’s popularity by making it easier than ever before to play the game through computers, smartphones, and tablets. On top of this, many of these brands run casino bonuses and other promotions that let their customers play roulette for less. They also offer a myriad of different options, including different rule variants, versions that use multiple balls, and live dealer games to provide players with a plethora of possibilities.

Fortnite

Although it wasn’t the first, Fortnite has helped to popularize the free-to-play model and the battle royale genre. Its cartoon-style graphics help it to stand out, while characters like the llama have made great merch products. During its peaks, Fortnite has seen more than 10 million concurrent players during 2021, numbers that would make most other developers jealous.

League of Legends

While GTA V might be approaching its 10th birthday, League of Legends has its first decade well and truly in its rear-view mirror. Despite launching way back in 2009, the game remains one of the most popular titles on the market today. This multiplayer online battle arena title began its life as a stand-alone spin-off from Warcraft III but has grown much larger than its parent. What makes League of Legends’ success in 2021 even more impressive is that it doesn’t offer the flexibility of different platforms for players to choose from. Instead, it’s limited to just Windows and Mac gamers.
